I was honestly beyond words when Anne-Marie at Footprints Across The Globe messaged me and explained how she has nominated me and my blog for this incredible award.
Stating that she loved the way I expressed my adventures through that of a story like format. It’s astounding to think she felt my work was worth recognition after only just 2 weeks of starting. Yes, I know. My blog was two weeks old when I received this award, which still blows my mind. I couldn’t believe it. As someone who is new to blogging it definitely was the confidence booster I needed.
I am so grateful to Anne-Marie and can not thank her enough. Go check her site out here and enjoy the fabulous range of recipes she has to offer. I know I have.
My Blogging Story
Right, so how I started. Well to be perfectly honest blogging has always been sort of there, just in different forms. When I was younger I would find myself writing short stories on my laptop or even on random pieces of scrap paper transporting me to different places. All in the hopes one day they would develop into something more. I used to also have more than one tatty worn out journal with the intention of tracking and documenting events that happened in my life. Especially when It came to traveling. I wanted to create a place where I could read through the pages, sit back and relive forgotten memories. This, however, didn’t turn out the way I had expected it. Over the years my hand writing and wording changed so much some entries were unreadable. It’s then I decided to work on making a YouTube channel. Stop. I know what you’re thinking. This lad needs to stop branching out and focus on one expressive outlet. I understand that now but back then not so much. Anyways, just over a year ago I wanted to take my everyday journal writing and create YouTube vlogs. This kept me both busy and entertained for a good couple of months. At which point my channel went from fitness to mostly travel and lifestyle. It was fun. The only downfall to this enterprise was the amount of time it took to film and edit videos. I wanted to get the perfect shots, the perfect transitions, the perfect content. Which took up too much time, so I stopped. Or at least put it on hold whilst I finished my studies. All of which lead to this point in my life.
The simplest answer to why I started it is because it makes sense. I love to read and I love to write. This way I can read over thousands of blogs/reviews/books and compose my own thoughts on the topics they discuss. Create enjoyable posts about my adventures, express my feelings towards certain products or services, even give advice to those I feel would benefit from it. I started my blog so I could channel all of my passions and talents into one place.
Advice for New Bloggers
As I have said before I too am a new blogger so I don’t know how much validation you will give my advice but these are two things I would like to know If I was just starting my blogging journey.
Facebook Blogging Groups
The first piece of advice I would give would be to get as involved and active as you can with social media groups, particularly those on Facebook. These groups have shown to offer such amazing opportunities to both those that are experienced and those just starting off. You can generate so many views and followers from joining in with threads and gain valuable answers to questions you may want to ask. I can not express how much FB groups have helped the progression of my blog. I’ve learned so much and made acquaintances with others in the same niche who still now regularly help me get better. The online blogging community is so welcoming and so friendly it would be a waste not to utilise it.
Goals and Expectations
My second piece of advice would be to set realistic expectations and goals. What I mean by this is do not set up your self-hosted site, spend hours on the layout and content and then get discouraged from the lack of views or interaction. It’s important you realise that anything good and worth having takes time to build. Be patient. Set goals that are realistic and achievable at first so you increase motivation and confidence. An example being in my first month of blogging my goal was to have 1000 overall views. This wouldn’t benefit me financially or benefit anyone else in any way shape or form but it was a personal accomplishment I felt driven to achieve. I’m happy to say I did this and now I’m working on 2000 views for my second month. These goals aren’t crazy difficult or unrealistic. It takes baby steps when wanting to be successful on a larger scale and these baby steps will carve the way forward.
